My family is from California, but I grew up in Washington state. I skated everyday that was dry, and when it wasn't we found cover. Skateboarding has that natural DIY aspect to it. You learn to look at obstacles differently, and how you might approach them in a unique way.

I had ideas about surfing. Stories my dad told me from his younger days. He grew up on Chelsea road in the South Bay of LA, just a short walk from the infamous Lunada Bay. From those stories, and watching Endless Summer on VHS with my sister, I knew I wanted to surf.

I moved to California in 2014 and went surfing as quickly as I could. I had some friends that were getting into shaping and I shaped my first board with their help on March 8th, 2019; my birthday. It started out as something completely new and very foreign. Of course we were glassing all our stuff then too. I liked it and I found ways to keep doing it. Shaping still remains a fun-first endeavor. Putting ideas into forms and trying them in the ocean. Learning the cause and effect of shaping. From where I’m sitting it’s an endless exploration.

Over the years I’ve made a few boards that I keep coming back to. Experimentation and discovery, minor changes and dialing in shapes. Some of those I’ve made into models.

My philosophy is that despite much of the surfing experience being out of one’s control (crowds, swells, conditions, whether or not a wave is going to come…) the things you can control should come easy. Catching waves, inherent speed, maintaining speed, and getting to where you want to go on a wave. A great surfboard invokes confidence. Confidence that will ultimately bring out one’s best surfing.

Lula Crafts was founded in 2022 as a means to track progression. The name comes from my dog Lula, inspired by the hot sauce Cholula. Currently I am shaping out of Shred Manufacturing in Torrance California
